Is a subregion in the Colombian Department of Antioquia. The region is made up by 24 municipalities. Most of this region northern portion is part of the Colombian Caribbean Region bordering the Caribbean sea.
Urabá is the coastal region of Antioquia and it is located in the Atlantic Ocean. Once you hear this, it will motivate you to imagine what could be done to enjoy oneself in the Caribbean Sea, exotic landscapes, wide cultural diversity, sun, and beach. In touristic matter, the subregion opens up to new possibilities based on the natural attractiveness of its lands.
In Katía language, Urabá means "The Promised Land". It is Antioquia's way into the sea, it is the most important banana and plantain region of the country and it is a pantry for this tropical fruit of various international markets. It is a subregion that mixes paisa and costeña culture in a space where beauty falls short to define these lands.
Touristic options point to diverse spots: agrotourism, one may visit a banana farms, get to know all the production process and shipping of the fruit, and enjoy the green seas that cover Urabá's plains.
The etnotourisim has an important contribution, the cohabitation of different races which are common in America and as well are present in Urabá. Afro-colombians, whites, Indigenous, mulatos, zambos, and mestizo populate this subregion. It is possible to visit the Cuna and Emberá Katío Indians and use the time to buy true art work done by them and at the same time one may get to know a little bit more about their culture.
The Urabá land has various airports. The most used ones are in Apartadó and in Turbo, but one may travel in a very popular way in Antioquia, by land. Starting off from Medellín, cross the Western Tunnel, travel by Santa Fé de Antioquia and you arrive to Mutatá, Uraba's door and home of the two Indigenoaus reservoir of the Emberá Katío.
Urabá is divided in three zones: one to the south, which limits with the West subregion and its main activities are agriculture and fishing, with Mutatá as a central axis of development; then there is a central zone, the most prosperous, economically speaking, with an epicenter in Apartadó, and banana cultivation is the main economic line; and the north zone, from Turbo up to Arboletes, its main activities are tourism and fishing.


The subregion of Uraba is one of nine in which is divided Antioquia. It occupies an area of 11,664 km2, has a population of 508,802 inhabitants and is composed of eleven municipalities: Arboletes, Necocli Uraba San Juan, San Pedro de Uraba, Apartado, Carepa, Chigorodo, Mutatá, Turbo, Murindó and Vigia del Fuerte. It has a geographical feature of great importance to the department and the country: the Gulf of Uraba, which is located on the Caribbean Sea and covers an area of 1,500 m2. In this subregion dominated fisheries, livestock, agribusiness, timber, agriculture and tourism
